Today the Viana de Castelo theater festival opens, which will take place between November 10 and 18, which will present 15 shows, in two spaces of the Sá de Miranda theater, complying with the regulations for the prevention of covid-19.

The artistic director of the Teatro do Noroeste-CDV, Ricardo Simões highlighted that it was the “possible party” due to the pandemic caused by the new coronavirus, and guaranteed that “everything is being done to be safe.”

He pointed out the “adaptations” in the program, which is divided between the main hall and the concert cafeteria of the municipal theater and the “restrictions” on the number of seats for the public.

“Despite the moment we live in, we want to send the message that we are condemned to survive and resume our activities, finding solutions to continue our activities, and theater is no different. It is an activity that lives from human presence and has been a daily challenge, ”said Ricardo Simões.

Regarding the program, the official, who took part in the press conference to present the fourth edition of the festival, highlighted the inaugural premiere of Almeida Garrett’s work “Telling the truth to the lie”, starring António Capelo.

Present at the meeting with journalists, the actor and director of the Contemporary Academy of Spectacle of Porto explained that his “approach” to Garrett’s text is intended to be an “exercise” in “internal interrogation”, on the role of theater companies and their relationship and with the people who live in the territories where they live.

“This ‘Tell the truth to the lie’ is a kind of exercise that we do, in front of ourselves, to discover what the actor’s truth is, based on the character’s lie. This work has to do with some of the things that are fundamental in the training of interpreters. But then, the idea of sharing this type of exercise, opening the doors, with the public, can be rewarding “, moving from internal training” to the idea of training more demanding spectators, “he said.

“I still think that a structure placed in a space, which is not questioned [sobre o] What you should do, it is a structure that will die in a very short time. This internal questioning is as fundamental as getting it out later. The idea of school within the theater ”, he reinforced.
