The searches to find the young man who disappeared today in the sea at Barra beach, in Ílhavo, were suspended around 10:40 p.m. and they will resume on Wednesday at 7:00 a.m., reported a source from the Port of Aveiro Captaincy.

Speaking to Lusa, the captain of the Captaincy of the Port of Aveiro, Humberto Silva Rocha, said that the searches will be carried out at sea, with the participation of the Corvette “João Roby” and the ship of the Salva Vidas Station, and on land , with equipment. of the Ílhavo Maritime Police and Fire Department.

This afternoon, an Air Force helicopter and three vessels from the Maritime Authority and the GNR Coastal Control Unit were on site.

The warning about the disappearance of the young man in his 20s, born in Gafanha da Nazaré, in Ílhavo, was delivered to the authorities at 6:37 p.m.

According to Commander Humberto Silva Rocha, the young man was walking along the beach together with a cousin and a friend when a wave surprised all three of them.

Two of them were rescued by surfers and, after being assisted on the spot, they were transported to Aveiro Hospital.

“The two rescued were dressed. Therefore, it is assumed that they were caught by a wave in an area of ​​a water source and that the chains dragged them,” said the commander.

At this time of year, the beach has no guards, as the start of the bathing season is only scheduled for June 13.
