The kindergarten of the Basic School No. 3 of Espinho has 20 people in quarantine after an employee and a child were diagnosed with covid-19, revealed this Friday the coordinator of Civil Protection in that municipality of the Aveiro district. .

According to Pedro Louro, who accumulates the aforementioned position with that of Commander of the Volunteer Firefighters of the Municipality of Espinho, the 1st Cycle is also taught in the educational establishment, so a global universe of 500 people is at stake, including students, teachers and auxiliaries, although only one room has been closed.

The two cases of infection by the SARS-CoV-2 virus were detected after an employee, without symptoms, was marked as a risk contact, after the previous contamination of one of her relatives.

After confirming this case, the class with which the assistant worked was subjected to tests and the presence of the new coronavirus was also found in an equally asymptomatic child.

“The school continues to function because we only closed the classroom in question and the dining room, since the whole building had separate circulation circuits. Today, at the end of the day, we will be disinfecting the kindergarten spaces,” the coordinator told Lusa of the Municipal Civil Protection Commission.

However, the number of confirmed cases may “increase in the coming days.”

Despite the absence of physical symptoms at the time of the epidemiological investigation of the suspects, “it is likely that the 20 people in isolation will all be examined, if they have not already done so,” he added.
