19 new cases of Covid-19 in the Azores

On the island of São Miguel, two women, between 29 and 48 years old, and six men, between 4 and 51 years old, related to an entertainment establishment located in the parish of São Pedro, were diagnosed. , in Ponta Delgada.

In the field of epidemiological investigation of these cases, the Municipal Health Authority has already taken care of the procedures for the identification, testing and surveillance of close contacts, and SARS-CoV-2 detection tests are being carried out for teachers, workers non-teachers and students from the Azores and a kindergarten located in Ponta Delgada.

Six men, aged between 13 and 55 years old, and three women, between 9 and 42 years old, close contacts of previously reported positive cases were also identified on the island of São Miguel.

In the context of the latter case, the procedures for the identification and evaluation of teachers, non-teaching workers and students of an educational establishment in the municipality of Ribeira Grande are underway.

On the island of Pico, two women, aged 55 and 62 years, not residents of the Region, from an air connection with the Portuguese peninsula, close contacts of high risk of previously reported positive cases, who had been in prophylactic isolation since their identification as close contacts, who were tested at the end of the 14-day isolation period as positive.

Thus, so far, 441 cases of contagion with the new coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, which causes the COVID-19 disease, have been detected in the Region, with 241 cases recovered and 121 positive cases currently active, of which 95 on São Miguel Island, 15 on Terceira Island, one on Graciosa Island, six on Pico Island, two on Faial Island, one on Santa María Island and one on Flores Island.

The Regional Health Authority updates the information on the COVID-19 pandemic this afternoon, at 4 pm, through a press conference of the Regional Health Secretariat, at Solar dos Remédios, in Angra do Heroísmo.

The prevention and containment measures of a pandemic must be maintained and strengthened, whenever possible, by citizens and organizations from the public, private and social sectors.

The Regional Health Authority reiterates the need to comply with all the recommendations already made public in this regard, especially that, in case of symptoms, do not look for a Hospital or Health Unit, but call the Azores Health Line – 808 24 60 24.
