15 new cases in the islands of São Miguel, Terceira and São Jorge

In the field of transmission chains in epidemiological research on the island of São Miguel, 10 cases were identified.

In the context of the epidemiological investigation related to an entertainment establishment in Ponta Delgada, seven positive cases were diagnosed on the island of São Miguel, reporting two women, aged 25 and 53, and five men, aged between 20 and 52 years.

As part of the epidemiological investigation of another previously reported case, three women were diagnosed on the island of São Miguel, between 23 and 60 years old.

On the island of Terceira, two 26-year-old individuals, a woman and a man, were diagnosed as part of the epidemiological investigation related to a restaurant located in the parish of São Mateus, in Angra do Heroísmo.

After the occurrence of symptoms, a 72-year-old man from the island of Terceira was diagnosed, the case is under epidemiological investigation.

The Municipal Health Authorities are taking care of all the procedures related to the identification, testing and surveillance of the contacts close to these cases.

In addition, it was observed that a 30-year-old woman recovered on the island of São Miguel, which raised the number of cases recovered to 242 in the Region.

Thus, so far, 472 cases of infection by the new coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, which causes the disease COVID-19, have been detected in the Region, with 149 positive cases currently active, of which 117 on the island from São Miguel, 17 on Terceira Island, one on Graciosa Island, three on São Jorge Island, six on Pico Island, three on Faial Island, one on Santa María Island and one on Flores Island.

The measures to prevent and contain a pandemic must be maintained and strengthened, whenever possible, by citizens and organizations from the public, private and social sectors.

The Regional Health Authority reiterates the need to comply with all the recommendations already made public in this regard, especially that, in case of symptoms, do not look for a Hospital or Health Unit, but call the Azores Health Line – 808 24 60 24.
