Portugal registers 16 more deaths and 2,535 new cases of covid-19. Another 1,340 people recovered. In total, since the start of the pandemic, 2,229 people have died and 106,271 have been infected.

This Wednesday is, so far, the second day with the most cases of covid-19 in the country since the start of the pandemic – the value is only exceeded by the 2608 counted last Friday. In total, 106,271 people are or have been infected with the virus: 57,907 women and 48,364 men. Of these, 40,804 are active patients (1,179 more than yesterday). On the other hand, 1,340 more were recovered, of 63,238.

North with more than half of new cases

The largest increase in new cases continues to occur among young people: the age group 20-29 years adds 444 new infections. It is followed by the 40-49 year group, with 461 more cases, and the 30-39 group, with 409 more. Taking into account the previous balance, there are also 373 more infected between 50 and 59 years and 248 more. between 60 and 69. In the 70-year-old group there are 148 more cases, and in the 80 or more group there are 126. In children up to 9 years there are 105 more infected. And 219 more in young people between 10 and 19 years old.

The North region continues to show the most new infections (1,379 out of a total of 42,921), which represents 54.3% of the most recent infections. They are followed by Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, with another 863 cases, in 49,459, and the Central region, where there are 197 more infected, in 8743. The Alentejo has 50 more (in 2163) and the Algarve with 41 more (2307). The archipelago of Madeira has four more infected, with a total of 349, and in the Azores there is one more case, in 329.

Deaths in all regions of the continent

In the last 24 hours, 16 more people died in Portugal, bringing the total number of deaths from Covid-19 to 2,229 (1104 women and 1125 men). Eight deaths were recorded in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, four in the north, two in the center, one in Alentejo and one in the Algarve. It concerns a man between 60 and 69 years old, a man and three women between 70 and 79 years old, and three men and eight women between 80 and over.

The number of hospitalizations continues to rise: there are now 35 more people in the ward (1272 in total) and 11 more in the intensive care units (187). On the other hand, there are 55,882 people under surveillance, 244 less than yesterday.
