A 12-year-old girl gave birth at her home last Sunday in Cantabria, Spain, to the surprise of the family, who claim to be unaware that the girl was pregnant. According to El Correo, paramedics who arrived in time to cut the umbilical cord came to the scene.
Once stabilized, the mother and son were transferred to the Marquês de Valdecilla University Hospital. The baby was admitted to the Neonatology Unit and, according to a hospital source, “is in good health.” The girl who was a mother was also discharged from the hospital shortly after giving birth. The father of the child is not known.
An investigation was opened into the case, especially because the child had already been referred by the Spanish Social Services.
In addition to the investigation of the Spanish Public Ministry, which is following up on the case to investigate possible abuse of the minor, another process is underway since the family has already given the baby up for adoption.
According to a hospital source, the girl became pregnant at the beginning of the period of confinement in Spain.
