1,175 dead, 28,132 infected and 3,182 recovered in the country

Portugal registers 1,175 deaths related to covid-19 today, 12 more than on Tuesday and 28,132 infected, another 219, according to the epidemiological bulletin published today by the General Directorate of Health.

Compared to Tuesday’s data, which recorded 1,163 deaths, there was an increase in deaths of 1.03% today.

Regarding the number of confirmed cases of infection with the new coronavirus (28,132), data from the General Directorate of Health (DGS) show that there are 219 more cases than on Tuesday (27,913), representing an increase of 0.8%.

The northern region has the highest number of deaths (667), followed by the Lisbon region and the Tagus Valley (257), the center (221), the Algarve (14), the Azores (15) and the Alentejo, which records a case, brings forward the report on the epidemiological situation, with updated data until 24:00 on Tuesday, keeping the Autonomous Region of Madeira without registering deaths.

According to data from the General Directorate of Health, 602 deaths are women and 573 are men.

Of the registered deaths, 788 were over 80 years old, 232 were between 70 and 79 years old, 104 were between 60 and 69 years old, 38 between 50 and 59 years old, 12 between 40 and 49 and one of the patients was between 20 and 29 years.

The clinical characterization of the confirmed cases indicates that 692 patients are admitted to hospitals, 17 fewer than on Tuesday (-2.4%) and 103 are in Intensive Care Units, minus 10.

23,083 people are recovering at home.

DGS data indicates that the municipality of Lisbon has the highest number of cases of infection with the new coronavirus (1,811), followed by Vila Nova de Gaia (1,461), Porto (1,306) Matosinhos (1,217), Braga (1,153)), Gondomar (1,050), Maia (909), Sintra (790) Valongo (737), Guimarães (666), Ovar (636), Coimbra (561) and Loures (559).

Since January 1, 282,961 suspected cases have been registered, of which 2,686 are awaiting test results.

There are 252,143 cases where the test results were negative, DGS says, adding that the number of recovered patients increased to 3,182, 169 more than Tuesday, an increase of 5.3%.

The North region continues to register the highest number of infections, with a total of 16,112, followed by the Lisbon region and the Tagus Valley, with 7,647, the Center region, with 3,559, the Algarve (351) and the Alentejo (238) .

The Azores registered 135 cases of covid-19 and Madeira registered 90 confirmed cases, according to the bulletin published today.

The DGS also registers 27,054 contacts under the supervision of the health authorities.

Of the total infected, 16,524 are women and 11,608 men.

The age group most affected by the disease is 50 to 59 years old (4,746), followed by the age group of 40 to 49 years old (4,728) and people over 80 years old (4,270 cases).

There are still 4,072 patients aged between 30 and 39 years, 3,411 between 20 and 29 years, 3,167 between 60 and 69 years and 2,382 between 70 and 79 years.

DGS also records 484 cases of children up to nine years old and 872 of young people from 10 to 19 years old.

According to the daily report of the epidemiological situation in Portugal, 177 cases result from the importation of the virus from Spain, 137 from France and 88 from the United Kingdom. There are still hundreds of imported cases from dozens of other countries.

According to DGS, 42% of new coronavirus-positive patients have symptoms of cough, 30% fever, 21% muscle pain, 20% headache, 15% generalized weakness, and 12% shortness of breath. This information refers to 89% of confirmed cases.

Globally, according to a report by the AFP news agency, the covid-19 pandemic has already killed more than 290,000 people and infected more than 4.2 million people in 195 countries and territories.

More than 1.4 million patients were considered cured.
