Portugal registers 1,126 deaths related to covid-19 today, 12 more than on Friday and 27,406 infected (more 138), according to the epidemiological bulletin published today by the General Directorate of Health.

Compared to Friday’s data, which recorded 1,114 deaths, there was a 1.1% increase in deaths today.

Regarding the number of confirmed cases of infection with the new coronavirus (27,406), data from the General Directorate of Health (DGS) show that there are 138 more cases than on Friday (27,268), which represents an increase of 0.5%.

The northern region is the one with the highest number of deaths (645), followed by the Lisbon region and the Tagus Valley (238), the center (215), the Algarve (13), the Azores (14) and the Alentejo, which registers a case, brings forward the report on the epidemiological situation, with updated data until midnight on Friday, keeping the Autonomous Region of Madeira without registration of deaths.

According to data from the General Directorate of Health, 574 deaths are women and 552 are men.

Of the registered deaths, 755 were over 80 years old, 226 were between 70 and 79 years old, 97 were between 60 and 69 years old, 36 were between 50 and 59 years old, 11 were between 40 and 49 years old and one patient was between 20 and 29 years.

The clinical characterization of the confirmed cases indicates that 815 patients are admitted to hospitals, 27 fewer than on Friday and 120 are in Intensive Care Units, (minus seven), which represents a decrease of 5.5%.

26,471 people are recovering at home.

The DGS data indicate that the municipality of Lisbon has the highest number of cases of infection with the new coronavirus (1,724), followed by Vila Nova de Gaia (1,448), Porto (1,300), Matosinhos (1,197), Braga (1,149), Gondomar (1,048), Maia (908), Sintra (745) Valongo (737), Guimarães (657), Ovar (614) and Coimbra (558).

Since January 1, 272,443 suspected cases have been registered, of which 2,955 are awaiting test results.

There are 242,082 cases in which the test result was negative, says DGS, adding that the number of recovered patients increased to 2,499, 77 more than on Friday, representing an increase of approximately 3.2%.

The North region continues to register the highest number of infections, totaling 15,854, followed by the Lisbon region and the Tagus Valley, with 7,166, the Center region, with 3,581, the Algarve (345) and the Alentejo (235).

The Azores registered 135 cases of covid-19 and Madeira registered 90 confirmed cases, according to the bulletin published today.

DGS also records 26,667 contacts under surveillance by health authorities.

Of the total infected, 16,175 are women and 11,232 men.

The age group most affected by the disease is 50 to 59 years old (4,621), followed by the age group of 40 to 49 years old (4,614) and people over 80 years old (4,185 cases).

There are also 3,952 patients between the ages of 30 and 39, 3,282 between 20 and 29 years, 3,117 between 60 and 69 years and 2,339, between 70 and 79 years.

The DGS also registers 465 cases of children up to nine years old and 831 of young people between 10 and 19 years old.

According to the daily report of the epidemiological situation in Portugal, 177 cases result from the importation of the virus from Spain, 137 from France and 88 from the United Kingdom. There are still hundreds of imported cases from dozens of other countries.

According to the DGS, 42% of new coronavirus-positive patients have symptoms of cough, 30% fever, 21% muscle pain, 20% headache, 16% general weakness, and 12% shortness of breath. . This information refers to 89% of confirmed cases.

The covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than 274,000 deaths and infected more than 3.9 million people in 195 countries and territories.

More than 1.2 million patients were considered cured.
