Angelina Friedman is 101 years old and, at her age, she can be proud of having won the so-called Spanish flu, cancer and now Covid-19, which has ruthlessly caused thousands of deaths in New York, the state where she lives in an asylum.
The American was diagnosed with the disease transmitted by the new coronavirus in March, but she overcame it, as she did with the Spanish flu in the last century and, later, with cancer, the newspaper “The New York Post” reported Tuesday ( 28))
The elderly are the population most vulnerable to the virus, and thousands of them have died in the United States, especially in nursing homes. According to Angelina’s family, he survived because he has “superhuman DNA”.
“My mother is a survivor,” said one of the daughters, Joanne Merola, who recalled that Angelina also survived “miscarriages and hemorrhages.”
The daughter of Italian immigrants, Angelina was born in 1918 on a ship bound for the United States, at a time when the Spanish flu was at its peak, as is now the case with the new coronavirus.
Her mother died in childbirth, and Angelina lived with her father and ten siblings in the Brooklyn district. Years later, already married, she and her husband were diagnosed with cancer.
“She survived, but he didn’t,” said Joanne.
On March 21, Angelina was taken to a hospital for a simple medical procedure, and the test was positive for the coronavirus.
A week after hospitalization began, she was sent to the geriatric ward, where she remained isolated until April 20, when she tested negative for Covid-19. Was cured
Angelina’s first request was for knitting yarn, said Joanne, who has yet to see her mother due to low back pain. He couldn’t call her either, since he lost his hearing. However, he sent a message to his mother.
– Come on, mom. You will live longer than all of us, finished.
