Former Portuguese international shared a video of the looting of a store
The arrest of rapper Pablo Hasél has sparked demonstrations in Spain for several days, but not everyone comes out to protest. There are riots, vandalism and looting.
This Saturday, a group separated from the protesters in Barcelona and left a trail of destruction on Paseo de Gracia, where the main luxury stores are located. It was the video of the assault on one of those establishments that Luís Figo shared on Twitter.
“Freedom of expression is more beautiful with some Nika on the sidewalks! And then the police are to blame. Shameful,” wrote the former Portuguese international.
Hasél was arrested on Tuesday and sentenced to nine months in prison for “glorifying terrorism” and “insulting the Spanish monarchy” through the lyrics of his songs and the tweets he published. Several personalities, such as director Pedro Almodóvar, called for the rapper’s release and a change in legislation called the “gag law.”
The Spanish Government has promised to modify the law, approved in 2015, so that “verbal excesses that are committed in the context of artistic, cultural or intellectual manifestations are excluded from criminal sanction.”
Hasél is the first musician arrested in Spain for his content of the music he composed since the end of the Franco dictatorship in 1975. Valtonyc, another musician, was forced to flee to Belgium in 2018.
