A three-year-old boy was rescued alive from the rubble of a building that collapsed in Izmir, Turkey, after the strong earthquake last Friday.

The girl was rescued this Monday morning, more than 65 hours after the earthquake, according to the Turkish news agency, Anadolu.

Firefighter Muammer Celik, who pulled Elif Perincek out of the rubble of the house where she lived, told CNN that the girl held tightly to his hand until he brought her to safety. “Elif is our miracle,” he added.

The boy was found lying on his back, between the bed and the dresser. The emergency team, who worked hard at the rescue, applauded the girl’s rescue as they retired to the ambulance.

Elif’s mother and two brothers had previously been rescued, but one of the brothers died, according to Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca. The three-year-old girl was not seriously injured and was recovering in hospital, according to the official.

News of the rescue came hours after a 14-year-old girl was also rescued alive from the rubble of another collapsed building in Bayraki, where she was trapped for more than 58 hours.

At least 100 people were killed and 994 injured in the 7.0 magnitude earthquake on the Richter scale, which struck the Aegean Sea last Friday, shaking parts of Greece and Turkey.
