Portland police have identified a suspect in a sick attack on a truck driver over the weekend, who was seen in a viral video being deliberately hit by a kiss on the head of a protester while trying to stop a transgender wife of robbery.

The Portland Police Bureau is now on the hunt for 25-year-old Marquise Love, known by friends as ‘Keese Love’, for his apparent involvement in the brutal attack on Sunday.

Police said the victim was trying to help a transgender woman who had stolen some of her belongings at the scene.

‘This person has not been contacted and their identity is unknown. Investigators would like to talk to this person, ‘police said in a statement Tuesday.

Police say they have left a number of messages Love, urging him to surrender, but have so far received no response. They say they have a probable cause for his arrest.

The incident took place shortly before 10:30 a.m. Sunday, just blocks away from a demonstration by Black Lives Matter in Oregon’s capital outside the federal courthouse.

Police received a 911 call from a bystander who reported that a group of Protestants was chasing a truck in front of a truck behind a white Ford, which then crashed into a tree in downtown, a press release said.

A robber wearing a shirt with the word 'Security' on it delivered a sick kick to the back of the man's head as he sat the other night in Portland, Oregon.

The footage shows protesters pulling the man out of his truck and throwing him to the ground. The victim appeared dazed and blew professionally out of his head.

He was ordered to sit on the ground and told ‘wait for the police to arrive.’ The man, who some activists claimed had driven towards them, was then deliberately beaten by a cruel kiss to the side of his head from behind.

As he lay unconscious on the ground, rumors of ‘Black Lives Matter’ were heard while other Protestants tried to provide first aid.

Others began robbing the man’s truck and when questioned by bystanders, they explained that they were simply ‘checking on weapons’.

Police said they received another call estimating that about nine to 10 people “hit the man” when he was lying in the street.

A post that was all uploaded to Love’s Snapchat account the same evening appeared to refer to the attack, in which he wrote: ‘Possible to go to jail for a racist tonight, when all I did was fight against it, put money on twitter on my books and come see me. ‘

By the time police arrived, the suspect had disappeared and the victim was unconscious on the ground. He was taken to hospital but has since been released and is now recovering, police say.

He was not publicly named by police, but a GoFundMe site identified the victim as Adam Haner.

A post apparently uploaded to Love’s Snapchat account appeared referring to the attack on Haner, in which he wrote: ‘Possible to go to jail for a racist last night when everything I did was fought against him, put twitter money on my books and come see me. ‘

In the fundraiser, set up by his brother Brian, it is said that Haner suffered a number of injuries in addition to unspecified items being stolen from his truck.

‘Hope of this money will help Adam get things together for his life after the attack he suffered. “I know he needs repairs, or to replace the truck that went missing,” Brian Haner wrote. ‘He will also need time to recover from his injuries. Plus replacing things that were stolen from his pickup that night. ‘

Brian Haner admitted that his brother would give ‘the back of his shirt’ to one of the people around him, and he really does not deserve what happened to him in Portland.

“Adam tried to help someone and was then attacked,” he continued.

The Portland Police Department has not yet responded to a request from DailyMail.com to confirm Haner’s identity.

Investigators now say the victim was thought to have helped a ‘transgender woman who had stolen some of her belongings in the vicinity of Southwest Taylor and 4th Ave,’ before the attack happened.

David Hernandez, who shot the graphic footage, shared the same theory, claiming that the victim defended the transgender woman against being beaten and robbed by Protestants, when the group turned its attention to the truck driver and his female companion.

The unnamed man then got into his truck and drove away when he and the woman became a target, but collided in pursuit, Hernandez said.

“I think he just felt extremely threatened,” Hernandez said in an interview. ‘They chased him … until he finally crashed. When they finally caught up with him, they went nuts.

“This was great, extremely violent,” he said. ‘Sometimes I forget walking the streets of an American city in the Northwest. Sometimes it feels like you’re walking into a Third World county. ‘

Earlier footage shows the truck parked outside a 7-Eleven, with some assailants kicking it and attacking the man through the window, while others shouted, ‘He did nothing.’

Hernandez said that after violence broke out on Sunday – which has become a nightly event in the city – groups of Protestants attacked random circumstances.

“It’s literally just like one thing after another,” he said. ‘Just these random people, they start attacking physically.’

Sgt. Kevin Allen, a police spokesman, said the assailants “chased the truck before it crashed, and they attacked the driver after the accident.”

Allen said officers’ encountered a hostile crowd and a squad from the Rapid Response Team responded to secure the scene while the investigation was ongoing. ‘

Police said they could not yet identify the transgender woman who may have been robbed.
