PlayStation documentary trailer shows how far games have come since 1994

As advertising grows for the next PS5, an independent documentary that immerses itself in the history of Sony’s PlayStation sounds quite attractive. A preview of From Bedrooms to Billions: The PlayStation Revolution was released on Wednesday, ahead of the September 7 release of the documentary on VOD, Blu-Ray and DVD services.

Includes interviews with brand icons. 25 years of history as the current boss of PlayStation Jim Ryan, Metal Gear Solid mastermind Hideo Kojima, principal architect of PS5 Mark Cerny and Resident Evil co-creator Shinji Mikami. The trailer also shows many images of games through the years.

This documentary was funded through Kickstarter and directed by Anthony and Nicola Caulfield, who previously directed documentaries on the UK and Amiga video game industry.

The original PlayStation went on sale in Japan in December 1994, but did not reach the United States or Europe until September 1995. It held the Guinness World Record for best-selling console brand on the 25th anniversary of its launch in Japan. The PS5 is out this holiday season.
