Sometime on Wednesday night, four transactions were entered into Major League Baseball’s public database and posted for the world to see: Tommy Hunter, Scott Kingery, Héctor Neris, and Ranger Suarez were included in the list of injured, according to the league’s website, without a specific injury, causing speculation and confusion.
It was one more step in the gray zone that pandemic baseball occupies.
Athletic’s policy is not to report that a player has tested positive for COVID-19 unless the player, his or her representative, the team, or the league has publicly announced it. MLB has established a COVID-19 disabled list for players who test positive or are exposed to someone who has, but teams are prohibited from advertising a location on that list because the virus is not considered an employment-related injury and Computers must adhere to health privacy laws.
