Denice “The Menace” Zamboanga and Drex “T-Rex” Zamboanga took joyous victories in ONE: A NEW BREED, proving that a new generation of Filipino stars is ready to dominate the ONE Championship. The youngest of the Zamboanga siblings facilitated the work of Watsapinya “Dream Girl” Kaewkhong, proving that she truly deserves to be next in line for reigning world atomweight champion “Unstoppable” Angela Lee. Denice was truly menacing as she stalked Kaewkhong early on, dropping her heavy hands on her opponent and landing big knees in the clinch. The clinch was simply a precursor to the ending when she defeated her Thai foe, landed on side control and worked in the arms of “Dream Girl”. It wasn’t long before Kaewkhong found herself tapping as Zamboanga locked up an AL to score the win just 88 seconds into the game. “I am very grateful to have won this fight. I fought on the same card with my brother, that’s why I’m so happy, ”Zamboanga told Antoine Pinto after the match. “I just came prepared and had to be ready for her.” Her brother and coach was not as dominant, but just as successful, as she managed a second round submission win over Detchadin “Detchpool” Sornsirisuphathin via rear choke. Like her sister, Drex made a memorable debut, beating “Detchpool” shots and using her range advantage against the smaller Thai. The end came near the end of the second round when Zamboanga blocked a choke from behind and Detchadin, unwilling to give up, eventually passed out. Unfortunately, it was not a clean sweep for the Philippines team last Friday, as KC “Pinay Fight” Carlos lost via referee stoppage to Wondergirl Fairtex in the second round of their Muay Thai strawweight fight.
