MANILA, Philippines – Carlos Yulo clinched a pair of medals in preparation for the Tokyo Olympics, winning two bronzes at the Japan Gymnastics Championships Sunday at Takasaki Arena.
Yulo, 20, took third place in both the floor exercises and the jumping competition.
Yulo scored 14,866 in the vault behind gold and silver medal winners Hidenobu Yonekura (15,133) and Keisuke Asato (15,083).
He then scored a card of 15,200 in the floor exercises with Kazuki Minami taking the gold medal with a score of 15,600 and Ryosuke Doi taking the silver with a score of 15,300.
The Filipino Olympian settled for eighth place in the men’s overall with a total score of 170,032.
Yulo, the gold medal winner in the 2019 Stuttgart World Championships floor exercises, is in Japan training for the Olympics and is one of four Filipinos who have qualified for the Tokyo Summer Games alongside boxers Irish Magno and Eumir Marcial, and pole vaulter EJ Obiena.
