Carlos Yulo and Rayderley Zapata of the Dominican Republic, who will be heading to the Tokyo Olympics, shared the spotlight as the number one gymnasts in the ranking of floor exercise apparatus according to the latest rankings published by the International Gymnastics Federation ( FIG).

Yulo and Zapata scored an identical 70 points based on their performances in elite tournaments since 2018.

The Philippine gymnast earned 20 points each after winning bronze at 43rd Turnier Der Meister FIG Individual Apparatus World Cup in Cottbus, Germany in 2018, as well as the 2019 FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup in Doha, Qatar, and 30 points with his gold medal at the 2019 Melbourne World Cup in Australia.

Kirill Prokopev of Russia came in third with 64 points, followed by Artem Dolgopyat of Israel and Milad Karimi of Kazakhstan with 60 and 52 points.

Rounding out the Top 10 were Emil Soravuo of Finland (48), Ryu Sunghyun of Korea (48), Kazuki Minami of Japan (46), Casimir Schmidt of the Netherlands (46) and Hayden Skinner of Great Britain (40).

Yulo, 20, who currently trains in Japan, made history in 2019 as the first Filipino and Southeast Asian to win the gold medal in the world gymnastics exercise on the ground, earning him an Olympic spot in Tokyo. .

He is slated to award the country’s elusive Olympic gold medal alongside pole vaulter EJ Obiena and boxers Eumir Marcial and Irish Magno.
