The young Filipinos showed off their talents and skills in front of Gilas Pilipinas female coach Pat Aquino during a private presentation hosted by Fil-Am Nation Select over the weekend in Orange County, California.
About 60 players from across the United States attended the showcase, where Aquino had the opportunity to see young Filipino-Americans who will one day be able to dress for the national team.
Players came from as far away as Texas and Chicago to attend the two-day event.
“We have something great going on here,” said Cris Gopez, who founded Fil-Am Nation Select along with his cousin, San Miguel Beer guard Alex Cabagnot.
“We are here trying to find the best talent in Filipino girls,” he emphasized.
Cabagnot was also present at the exhibit, along with former Alaska Aces importer Sean Chambers.
Among the prospects who attended last weekend’s showcase were Angie Villasin and Halle Si’i.
The showcase was another opportunity for Aquino to search for potential players for the Gilas Pilipinas women’s team.
The mentor had traversed the United States in recent months to bond with Fil-Am prospects, while also connecting with established talents such as Duke’s Vanessa de Jesus and 3×3 star Ella Fajardo.
