Yeng Guiao praises Kevin Alas’s mental toughness

KEVIN Alas is off to a good start at the PBA Philippine Cup, and NLEX coach Yeng Guiao is very satisfied.

Alas is hitting good numbers in the bubble after recovering from his second ACL injury last year, and Guiao praised Alas for his toughness in getting back into top form.

The NLEX guard had a double-double on Thursday, finishing with 16 points, 10 rebounds and six assists to lead the Road Warriors to a 102-88 victory over NorthPort.

“That just shows the mental toughness of the youngsters. More than the physical toughness of Kevin trying to get back to where he was, that’s really more than the physical barrier. It’s the emotional barrier na na-surpasses niya, ”said Guiao.

“Imagine having two ACL [injuries] In no time at all, you would feel like your career is over. But for Kevin, it’s just beginning, ”Guiao said.

Before the game against the Batang Pier, Alas averaged 15.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 4.0 assists. On Thursday, Alas also scored eight points when he teamed up with Kiefer Ravena to help NLEX on its way to victory.

“He puts in the sacrifice and hard work, and little by little, he is reaping the fruits of his effort. It is a testament to his toughness not just physical, discipline and hard work. It really is the mental aspect. That’s how tough it is mentally, ”he added.
