On Sunday, INTERIOR Secretary Eduardo Año backed the decision of Valenzuela City Mayor Rex Gatchalian to suspend the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) Corp.’s business permit due to traffic blocks caused by ID transactions. by radio frequency (RFID) in toll plazas in the city.

Año said city officials and NLEX Corp. executives should hold a dialogue to clarify their concerns and address the massive traffic jams.

He noted that local government units (LGUs) could take action on issues, especially if the welfare and safety of voters were affected.

“As it happened in Valenzuela, we saw that the world stopped there [because of] heavy traffic and despite some warning [from Gatchalian]It was still going on, ”Year said on a television.

“I am supporting our LGUs in that type of action. There is always a solution for that [and] they should sit down, talk and find a common solution instead of imposing something they want and then our citizens will be greatly affected, ”said DILG.

“The main solution to that is to talk because it’s really difficult for me to abruptly impose a cashless transaction. Not all Filipinos can meet the established deadline [for RFID installation]Although there is also a solution to assign lanes to those who do not yet have RFID, especially those who come from the provinces ”, he added.

Gatchalian personally served the order to suspend the business permit for NLEX Corp.
