MANILA, Philippines – A crowd-drawing “vetting” effort will be conducted, attended by Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque and Senator Manny Pacquiao, who allegedly violated physical distancing measures, said Sunday. Secretary of the Interior, Eduardo Year.

“We will make sure there is an investigation there and if someone is held accountable, we will investigate,” Year said in an interview with dzBB.

Netizens criticized Roque for addressing a dense crowd on Bantayan Island, Cebu, without allegedly observing physical distancing.

Photos of Roque with island residents circulated on social media on Friday when netizens criticized him for the “flagrant” violation of quarantine rules.

The Palace official admitted that physical distancing was not followed, but asserted that the rule cannot be followed if people wear masks in an outdoor location.

Meanwhile, screenshots of alleged Instagram stories by Pacquaio’s wife Jinkee also went viral on social media showing the senator speaking to a crowd in Batangas who also did not observe physical distancing.

This was not the first time that authorities were criticized for violating their own COVID-19 quarantine protocols.

The chief of police, General Debold Sinas, was attacked in a “morning” made on his birthday in May, when he was still the chief of the Metro Manila police.

Although the investigation into the morning issue is still ongoing, President Duterte said he will pardon Sinas if convicted.
