“I’m trying to take an inventory of our players. Of course, there will be a draft in October 2020. “ the friendly executive unveiled during So She Did, presented by SMART Sports.

Some of the prospects looking to be part of the 2020 class are Clare Castro from FEU; Danica Jose and Katrina Guytingco from Ateneo; Kelli Hayes and Monique del Carmen from NU; and Sai Larosa of UST, among others.

In addition to UAAP and WNCAA players, Montreal and Commissioner Bujoy Magno also raised the age limit for applicants, as even veteran players want to put their name in the draft and return to their first love.

“We have increased the age requirement for the playing years because most of those who graduated earlier from UAAP and WNCAA. They’ve been sending us messages like, ‘Mrs Rhose baka naman, you can increase the age kasi that we really wanted to play for a professional league and we’re already 34, we’re already 35’,Montreal shared.

“Basically, at WNBL, as long as you can play, you are welcome.”

The inaugural season of the WNBL featured seven teams, namely the Philippine Navy, the Philippine Air Force, Taguig Lady Generals, Pampanga Delta Amazons, and Cleon and Clyde Lady Snipers. Air Force won the title.

All teams that belong to the armed forces will not be incorporated into the proceedings.

However, Montreal is still considering whether Filipino foreigners who were unable to study in the Philippines will be able to enter the draft.

“Unfortunately, both the NBL and the WNBL are strictly for all Filipino players because my point in putting the WNBL, I have always believed, even during my professional league days, that there is a surplus of players in the Philippines. So I could give them the exposure and then get imports or get Fil-Fors to play it will come later, I guess, but what I really wanted for the first season is for it to be a fully Filipino composition for WNBL. “
