With Alert Level 2 raised, Filipinos in Mali said to prepare for evacuation amid tension

MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has instructed Filipinos in Mali to restrict non-essential movements and prepare for evacuation in light of the current political and security situation in the West African country. .

In a statement Tuesday, the DFA said that it already raised alert level 2 in Mali on September 18.

Alert Level 2 is issued when there are threats to Filipinos’ life, safety and property arising from internal unrest, instability and / or external threats, according to the DFA.

“During Alert Level 2, Filipinos are instructed to restrict non-essential movements, avoid public places and prepare for evacuation,” he said.

The DFA further advised the Filipino community in Mali to coordinate with the Philippine Embassy in Rabat, Morocco, to receive further notices.
