The Miami Heat are heading to the NBA Finals to face the Los Angeles Lakers. That brings up a question, will Coach Spo finally get some credit?
The Miami Heat are heading to the NBA Finals. For the first time in team history, a team without Dwyane Wade will head to the NBA Finals to try for the NBA title.
After such a long and tight season, equipped with many ups and downs, it is logical that they go to the final to try to finish it off. Here’s the thing though, with another trip to the NBA Finals for Coach Spoelstra and with this group, is he finally starting to get the credit he deserves?
It was relatively recently that basketball commentator Dan Dakich said that Coach Spo was not one of the best coaches in the league. You guys remember, right?
That situation where he would take “Nate McMillan” and “a bunch of guys” over Coach Spo. Is he “just a man” and are we “out of” our “minds” if we think he’s a top coach in the league?
However, that’s just one of many blasphemous or underrated versions of the guy. It wasn’t really until he began dismantling rival coaches in these playoffs that those who called the games couldn’t help but acknowledge his greatness.
The Miami Heat are heading to the NBA Finals. Will Coach Spo finally get his due?
If you heard the evolution of broadcasts, you heard what we are talking about. He went from a bunch of brave guys and Jimmy Butler to Coach Spo being an “outstanding coach.” If you are familiar with the vernacular of a certain speaker, then it makes perfect sense to you.
Never mind the fact that he trained the boy that Dakich would put on top of him, out of work, before proceeding to surpass the two guys who have been crowned the the latest and the best in recent years. While the coach Outbreak and Brad Stevens was busy getting all the accolades, Coach Spo continued to polish his craft, his rings, and his trophies.
Mind you, this was all over again while they drenched in the accolades, no hardware to show for it. This team is not just the embodiment of Miami Heat culture, but they are the personification of Spo.
Work hard when no one is looking at you. “Stay the course.”
Be true to yourself and when the times come when all of that should come out of you, it will, because you have lived, practiced, and trained for those times. That’s what prepares you for it.
So with what the Miami Heat have accomplished this year combined with what people expected of them, Spo has not only been the best coach in the league this season, but by a mile. Perhaps that, along with all your previous accolades, will give you a chance to finally get the credit you deserve.
