MANILA, Philippines – “We’re supposed to be honorable,” AAMBIS-OWA Participating Representative Sharon Garin said Wednesday as she lamented how other lawmakers were drawn into the House of Representatives fight between President Alan Peter. Cayetano and the representative of Marinduque Lord Allan Velasco.
Garin made the comment after she and two other lawmakers were stripped of the chairmanship of their House committees amid the line of speakers.
“It seems that we are abandoning the tradition. We are abandoning honor, we are supposed to be honorable. We are abandoning many things by doing this, that we are involving all the congressmen, we are trying to involve them in a fight to be speakers that is really just between the two of them ”, Garín, Velasco ally and former president of the economic affairs committee, he said in an interview with ABS-CBN News Channel.
“It is an insult to each and every one of the congressmen and I hope we all realize that he sang na respect lang. Pulitika, pulitika lang yan ”, he added.
Garin said Cayetano is alienating the partisan bloc in the House with his impeachment, as well as the measure to replace partisan Rep. 1-PACMAN Michael Romero, who also serves as chairman of the partylist bloc in the lower house, as vice president.
The representative of the 4th district of Quezon, Helen Tan, and the representative of the 2nd district of the city of Valenzuela, Eric Martínez, who headed the health committee and the youth and sports development committee, were also removed from their positions as chair of the committee. , respectively.
“Helen Tan is also from the NPC (Nationalist People’s Coalition), she was also removed, I don’t know why because she has not been active in this whole circus. But the mere fact that she was an NPC, maybe that made it stand out, ”Garin said.
“Eric Martinez is one of the originals. Probably the only one of the two original PDPs that is the president’s party. Tatlong party yan who obviously does not support him much and this was very significant. Very discouraging for the leaders of the ito sa mga party, as well as for the party members, ”he added.
In the same interview, Garin said that the fight is not over yet for Velasco.
“It is not over. I personally believe that this is not over. A lot of things will still happen in the near and distant future and I would recommend Congressman Velasco to continue because that is what the president wanted,” Garin said.
The legislator, who accompanied Velasco when Duterte met with him and Cayetano to resolve the presidential dispute, said the president was “clear” in his pronouncement to comply with the shared term agreement.
“If that were the agreement and the President’s suggestion that we have received, then I would defend the President because he is the top executive we have and he is the leader of the PPD which is the leading party at the moment,” Garin. He said.
“With all due respect to all iba supporters at ibang speakerables, I am endorsing whoever the president would prefer to have as a spokesperson and that was clear to me,” Garin said.
Under the shared term agreement, Cayetano would serve as Speaker of the Chamber for the first 15 months of the 18th Congress, while Velasco would be successful in office for the remaining 21 months.
