For the first party Hot Ones SThe end of eason 11 (recorded before the coronavirus blockade) gave Justin Timberlake the challenge for the series’ spicy wing. Timberlake was ready for the showdown that melted his face, though he sweated it as hard as any other guest who has defied the grueling spectacle.
The Tennessee native managed to keep his end of the interview pretty well overall and discussed everything from Memphis’ essential dining destinations to his music, both serious and not.
In addition to telling the first time he heard the beat for “Cry Me a River”, Timberlake told the origin story of one of SNL’s best digital shorts, his music video “Dick in a Box” with Andy Samberg.
What people don’t know about “D on B” as he calls it, Timberlake said, is that he and the lonely Isle of Samberg comedy company basically scammed groups I like your own NSYNC for the 90s look and feel for the video. And the song itself was inspired by the urban legend about the boys who poke holes in the bottom of popcorn bags to get handicrafts from their movie dates, in case you’re wondering.
They were told to censor “Dick” at the last minute, Timberlake says, but he was happy about that, since the “bleeped version” is more fun, as far as he’s concerned (he’s right).
