VP spox perplexed why admin still ‘parses’ Robredo’s daughters tweets

MANILA, Philippines – The Office of the Vice President (OVP) was puzzled why the administration focused on tweets from Vice President Leni Robredo’s daughters when there is still a lot of work to be done after the recent typhoon attack on Luzon.

Robredo’s spokesman, Barry Gutiérrez, said Thursday that they do not understand why so much time is being spent analyzing the tweets of Tricia Robredo and Aika Robredo, whom Malacañang attributed as the basis for President Rodrigo Duterte’s outbursts on Tuesday night. .

“OMG, 69 Filipinos dead, 325,000 displaced, over P1.5B in damage, and this administration is now spending its time analyzing TWEETS of VP Leni’s daughters ?!” Gutiérrez said on Twitter.

“Vice President Leni went back to work immediately. You three are still Hanash. Who is politicizing again? ” I ask.

(Vice President Leni went back to work immediately. But she’s been talking about this for three days. Who’s politicking again?)

Duterte harshly criticized Robredo during his briefing on the status of COVID-19 in the country, saying she was bombastic and lied when asking about her whereabouts as Typhoon Ulysses ravaged the country, referring to the #NasaanAngPangulo trend in the social networks.

While Ulises caused immense floods in Metro Manila and Rizal, especially in Marikina, Rodríguez and San Mateo, Robredo was active on his Twitter account to respond to calls for help and rescue.

The same happened while Cagayán requested help during the night, since he formed a team that would coordinate the location of the people requesting rescue with the operations and military personnel on the ground.

However, Robredo never publicly asked about Duterte’s whereabouts, even saying that he believes a president does not need to appear publicly during the storm, as authorized Cabinet representatives can.

Presidential spokesman Harry Roque previously said he is not sure if Robredo actually sought out Duterte, but did mention tweets made by Robredo’s daughters.

In the first tweet, Tricia Robredo said “Tulog pa rin? Ay otso na. “which translates literally as” Are you still asleep? It’s already 8:00 am “Aika Robredo then responded by saying” Saturday huh. Weekend. ” which means “It’s Saturday. Weekend.”

The president or any official is not mentioned in the tweet quoted by Roque.

Duterte, who maintained that he was at the top of the Asean when Ulises left a trail of destruction, insisted that Robredo was lying by making it appear that no one is in charge.

He also said that Robredo appeared to be giving orders to the military and police, when both the organizations and other agencies involved in rescue and relief operations have been pre-positioned.

Robredo, for his part, has vehemently denied asking about Duterte’s whereabouts, saying the president has been fed lies about her ever since. He also clarified that he did not order the military and that his discussions were only to coordinate ransom requests.
