A video of West Philly residents dancing in the street as Joe Biden takes the lead in the state has gone viral.
The former vice president is poised to win the 2020 election as the key states of Pennsylvania and Georgia on the battlefield turned in his favor today.
As two crucial states turn blue, the chances of Donald Trump being re-elected are gradually fading as his team continues to allege election fraud.
The news of Biden’s success in the City of Brotherly Love has been welcomed by voters there.
Local news reporter Ellie Rushing from the Philadelphia Inquirer shared the joyous video on Twitter on Friday morning.
“West Philly reacts to Biden’s leadership in Pennsylvania by dancing in the street, of course,” Rushing tweeted.
Several residents can be seen outside homes in a suburban area dancing (socially estranged) to Diana Ross’s celebratory anthem “I’m Coming Out” as passing cars honk in solidarity.
The feel-good video has been viewed over three million times at the time of publication, with over 200,000 likes.
Renowned filmmaker Ava Du Vernay responded to the clip, tweeting, “I want to be like this! Putting together my playlist to fill my street with celebratory black classics!”
While another person responded by saying, “This is the best I’ve seen in a long time. Tears of joy.”
Another added: “This looks like the end of a feel-good movie.”
“Don’t we all feel that way right now? Absolutely happy,” added actor and filmmaker Paul Feig.
In other parts of the city, hundreds have gathered for a “Count Every Vote” block party hosted by Democratic groups in the city. Many also gathered outside the Pennsylvania Convention Center, where votes are counted, where more singing and dancing took place.
The news that Biden took the lead in Keystone state also sparked a flurry of memes online.
A Biden victory in Pennsylvania would give him 20 more votes in the electoral college for a total of 273, bringing him above the 270 line needed to win the presidency.
Biden also narrowly edged Trump in Georgia in the early hours of Friday morning, then increased his lead over the president in Nevada.
