SAN FRANCISCO, AGUSAN DEL SUR – At least four towns and one city in Agusan del Sur province were flooded by incessant rains caused by Tropical Depression Vicky on Friday (December 18).

The heavy rains came just before sunrise and continued for more than eight hours, causing some rivers to swell and flood communities.

The floodwaters came from the knees to the ceiling. As of 3 p.m. Friday, no one was reported to have suffered damage from the flooding.

Those affected by the floods were Bayugan City and the towns of San Francisco, Rosario, Santa Josefa and Trento.

Rescue teams continue to evacuate people at night amid a blackout.

On Friday afternoon, the National Council for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (NDRRMC) issued an orange rain warning for the provinces of Agusan del Sur, Agusan del Norte and Surigao del Sur.

This was elevated to a red warning in the afternoon and included, by then, Misamis Oriental, Camiguin and Bukidnon provinces.

In addition to heavy rains, the NDRRMC also warned against potential flooding and landslides as a result of heavy rains.

‘Vicky’ is expected to enter the Visayas region early Saturday (December 19).
