The national government has given the signal to university athletes to resume their training, pending a new set of guidelines to be drawn up by a technical working group composed of the drafters of the Joint Administrative Order (JAO), the Commission of Higher Education (CHEd) and members of select collegiate leagues.

Presidential spokesman Harry Roque made the announcement on Monday pursuant to Resolution No. 68 of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) just minutes before a separate virtual presser delved into the details of such. New measures.

“[The guidelines] will be based on the relevant provisions of the [JAO] enhanced by the existing practices of professional leagues that have begun training, particularly what they have done with testing and contact tracing, ”said CHEd President Prospero de Vera III.

No defined timeline was established, but the CHEd president noted that the development of such guidelines would take no more than three weeks.

The development comes as a result of a massive investigation into the alleged violation of quarantine protocols by the University of Santo Tomás and the National University, who received orders to show cause, according to De Vera.

“Due process requires that they be made to respond… that is why there is an order to show cause by the commission and that is why we are sending the results of our investigation to the [Department of Justice and the Department of the Interior and Local Government] so that they can investigate the alleged violations in the context of the IATF rules.
