MANILA, Philippines – The alliance and friendship between the Philippines and the United States will “not change” and will only continue to grow in the future regardless of who sits in the White House.

The Charge d’Affaires of the United States Embassy, John Law, assured this when the US media began to report the election results of the presidential race between President Donald Trump and his Democratic opponent, former US Vice President Joe Biden.

“Beyond the results of any election that we will see a little later today, beyond the triumph of any party or candidate, what we celebrate today is the strength of American democracy, with all its flaws, weaknesses and mistakes. For two and a half centuries, the American people have worked tirelessly to improve it and make our union ever more perfect. And that won’t change, ”Law said at the 2020 US presidential election observation event hosted by the US Embassy in Manila on Wednesday.

And finally, today we also celebrate the strength, vitality, and resilience of the US-Philippine alliance and the Philippine-US friendship. I’m pretty sure that won’t change either and will only grow and flourish for many years, “he added.

He reaffirmed that the United States stands ready to help the Philippines recover from the destruction caused by the typhoon.

Malacañang previously expressed confidence that bilateral relations between Manila and Washington will remain unchanged regardless of who wins this year’s US presidential election.

While President Rodrigo Duterte has a “personal relationship” with Trump, presidential spokesman Harry Roque said the Manila CEO will be able to establish “similarly warm personal relationships” with Biden if he ends up winning the US election.

Duterte was one of the notable world leaders who have voiced their desire for Trump to serve as president of the United States for another four-year term.
