A Manila graduate of the UNIVERSITY of the Philippines (UP) passed this year’s medical licensure exam, nine years after passing the nursing board exams.
Jomel García Lapides had a score of 88.67 percent, the highest among the more than 3,500 who took the tests, according to the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), which released the results Thursday.
Lapides was also number one in the nursing licensure exam in 2011, when she scored 88.40 percent.
Tiffany Grace Uy, also a graduate of UP Manila who went viral in 2015 for having the highest grade point average in the state university’s history, ranked fifth with 88.08 percent.
Uy graduated magna cum laude from the UP School of Medicine last July.
Patrick Joseph Amunategui Mabugat from the University of Saint La Salle and Adrian Emmanuel Diago Tevez from the University of Santo Tomas (UST) shared second place with 88.58 percent.
Henrick Ryan Chua Fong of UST was third with 88.33 percent.
The Cebu Institute of Medicine had a 100 percent pass rate, and all 138 students made it.
UP Manila had the second highest pass rate of 98.63 percent with 146 of its 144 students passed.
PRC said 4,704 took the medical board exam conducted earlier this month.
