MANILA – Actress and philanthropist Angel Locsin responded on Thursday to a military officer who alleged that her sister, Ella Colmenares, is “clandestine” as an alleged member of the New People’s Army (NPA).
Locsin’s short response was through a photo on Instagram Stories, which shows his family celebrating the birthday of his brother, Angelo Colmenares. Included in the family photo is Ella (second form on the right).
“Happy birthday to our youngest,” Locsin wrote, tagging Angelo’s account.
Referring to Ella, he added, using a laughing emoji: “With our controversial sister na nasa underground daw sa Quezon.”
The day before, an official with the government’s National Task Force to End the Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) named Ella as an alleged NPA sympathizer.
Lt. Gen. Antonio Parlade Jr. mentioned Ella when warning actress Liza Soberano about her ties to Gabriela Youth, after she appeared as a speaker at a webinar on the well-being of children and women organized by the rights group Women’s.
“Liza Soberano, there is still the possibility of abdicating from that group,” Parlade said via Facebook.
“If you don’t, you will suffer the same fate as Josephine Anne Lapira @ELLA, former Undersecretary General of Gabriela Youth of UP, Manila and defender of women’s rights, including against sexual predators among her fellow NPA unit the one who joined which is clearly indicated in his handwritten letter addressed to a certain @EMIL “
Parlade then issued the same warning to Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray, who has also been outspoken on political issues.
“The choice is yours Liza. And so with you Catriona. Do not follow the path taken by Ka Ella Colmenares (Locsin) on the metro and NPA Quezon. I am sure that Angel Locsin and Neri Colmenares will not tell you ”, he alleged.
Parlade was referring to the activist and human rights lawyer, the former representative of Bayan Muna Neri Colmenares, who is a relative of Locsin.
Prior to Sovereign’s controversial red label, Locsin, an internationally recognized philanthropist, faced similar attacks due to her activism and critical statements against the government.
