Jun Asunción became the recent player to part ways with the Universidad de Santo Tomás, having moved to the Universidad de Mapua.
The Varsitarian, UST’s official student publication, reported Tuesday on the recent development.
Melchor Divina, Mapua representative on the NCAA Management Committee (MANCOM), also confirmed the development at Manila Bulletin On Wednesday, but said the transfer has not yet been approved by the university’s academic department.
Asuncion had limited minutes of play during the 82 season and only prepared for one game in which they went scoreless.
The former UST forward, however, lost 20 points on 5-of-9 shooting in a 53-point UST rout of the Philippine Institute of Technology in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup last March before his postponement.
The 6-foot-2-inch Asunción became the fifth player to leave UST, following the departure of CJ Cansino, Brent Paraíso, Rhenz Abando and Ira Bataller due to the “Sorsogon bubble” controversy.
Asuncion, however, did not attend the alleged unauthorized training camp, the report added.
The new sophomore will be four years old starting in the 97 season at Mapua with coach Randy Alcantara, who was a member of Aldin Ayo’s coaching staff at UST.
Another series of meetings is scheduled for next week, as a resolution was not reached in Tuesday’s three-hour talk between officials from the Joint Administrative Order Group (JAO) and the UAAP on the UST and the National University on alleged violations. of the government health protocol.
