MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine College Athletic Association (UAAP) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) pledged their full commitment to help the government’s Technical Working Group (TWG) develop guidelines for resuming collegiate training.

Following the green light from the Interagency Task Force on the Restart of College Sports, the country’s two major college leagues said they will send officials from member schools to the TWG to join universities and colleges.

UAAP will be represented by Executive Director Atty. Rebo Saguisag, Chairman of the Sports and Rules Committee, Dean Francisco Díaz of the University of the Philippines, and Far Eastern U athletic director Mark Molina.

Paul Supan of Jose Rizal University and Hercules Callanta of Lyceum will serve as the NCAA representatives to the CHED-led TWG as the country’s governing body for tertiary institutions.

The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), the Department of Health (DOH) and the Games and Entertainment Board (GAB) have also been chosen to help CHED create a safe and effective program like professional sports.

The tripartite group PSC-DOH-GAB was responsible for making the return of professional sports possible last July after framing a Joint Administrative Order (JAO) containing guidelines and protocols for professional sports that are running smoothly until now.

The TWG is expected to finalize the guidelines in three weeks.

Collegiate sports have been the talk of the town last month following allegations of illegal training during the pandemic ahead of the IATF start and restart signal pending TWG guidelines.

The University of Santo Tomás and the National University, in particular, are under scrutiny from that matter and could be subject to possible sanctions after training at Sorsogon and Laguna, respectively.
