UAAP: Mark Nonoy and Deo Cuajao say goodbye to UST heading to La Salle

Mark Nonoy and Deo Cuajao say goodbye to the Santo Tomas University men’s basketball team on their way to De La Salle.

In a post on social media, both Nonoy and Cuajao thanked the school for giving them the opportunity to represent the university.

Sources confirmed that Nonoy and Cuajao are finalizing their transfer from Spain to Taft on Monday.

The duo also thanked former UST coach Aldin Ayo and his coaching staff, who resigned amid Sorsogon’s training bubble controversy.

“I am very grateful to the entire coaching staff, especially to Aldin Ayo who trusted me to take me from the province to Manila and gave me confidence when it came to the field and for guiding me even off the field to be a good person”, Nonoy wrote on her Instagram post.

“The amount I learned from them and they shaped my personality,” Cuajao wrote.

Nonoy and Cuajao admitted that it was not an easy decision to leave the team, but that they had to do it in order to focus on their basketball careers.

“Although it is very difficult for me, I need certainty in my career to be able to focus again on basketball. Because I’ve been worried for a few weeks about the consequences for our team, ”wrote Nonoy.

“I really need to make a decision and seek certainty for my career because this is where I form my dream for my family,” Cuajao wrote.

Despite this, both players hope the UST Tigers are up to the challenge.

Five other players have already left the roster amid the controversy that include CJ Cansino, Brent Paraíso, Rhenz Abando, Ira Bataller, Jun Asunción.

Cansino was transferred to the University of the Philippines; Bataller, Paraíso and Abando went to Letran; and Asunción moved to Mapua.

“Until the end, I hope that the team has a clear and orderly destiny despite everything we are going through,” Cuajao wrote.
