Sure, a fight between Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. would have been better in the 1990s, but every time two sports legends decide to back down it’s a win for fans everywhere.
The pair will meet in an exhibition game Saturday at the Staples Center in Los Angeles with bragging rights down the line, as they never fought during their careers.

Any prediction must take into account that Tyson is 54 and Jones 51.
Breaking down what they did in their careers decades ago doesn’t provide as much information as it normally would, and it’s hard to pinpoint speed one way or another. After all, Jones’ combination of athleticism and power stood out during his prime, and his reach advantage could help bring that speed into play as he tries to unleash a flurry of punches or combo moves.
Still, it is surely a mistake to assume that the speed will still be as impressive at this stage.
The thinking here is that power will make the difference in this one. Tyson is one of the most powerful fighters in boxing history and was more of a heavyweight than Jones during their respective careers.
