MANILA, Philippines – Typhoon Ulysses, known internationally as Vamco, made landfall at 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday over Patnanungan, an island city, in Quezon province, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa ).
The typhoon had maximum sustained winds of 140 kph near the center with gusts of up to 195 kph.
It was expected to move to the northern part of mainland Quezon between 1:00 am and 3:00 am Thursday.
Pagasa said areas under Signal No. 3 could suffer severe damage, especially high-risk structures such as old, dilapidated houses and those built with lightweight materials.
Areas in the path of the typhoon could also see a widespread disruption of power and communication services.
