MANILA, Philippines – More than a dozen people have died as a result of Typhoon Ulysses in Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon.

Citing data from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), presidential spokesman Harry Roque said at a televised press conference that the death toll at 8 a.m. Friday is at 12 after the typhoon struck. Metro Manila and many other regions of Luzon.

But later at the press conference, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año reported that the death toll had risen to 14.

“As twelve deaths were reported, but with a new incoming report, two have been added, so as of now we have fourteen deaths,” Year said.

(12 deaths were initially reported, but two more were added, according to the latest report, so the total number of deaths, so far, is 14.)

He added that three people are reported missing.

A total of 1,262 barangays were affected by Ulises and 1,006 of them suffered floods, reported Year.

Typhoon Ulysses caused severe flooding in Metro Manila, particularly in the city of Marikina and other parts of Luzon, bringing back painful memories of the onslaught of Tropical Storm Ondoy in September 2009.
