CEBU CITY, Cebu, Philippines – Two new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Cebu City in Barangay Luz, a densely populated urban poor town in the center of this city, Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia said at a conference release on Saturday afternoon.
In a Facebook post, the Cebu City Health Office said Barrio Luz already had another previously confirmed COVID-19 case.
The Department of Health in Central Visayas (DOH 7) confirmed the two new cases of COVID-19 in Cebu City, but did not say in which town these patients were located.
Dr. Jaime Bernadas, DOH 7 director, said the two new cases were among the 138 tests performed at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center, a sub-national laboratory accredited by the World Health Organization.
An individual was confirmed to have COVID-19 in a repeat DOH test 7.
In the same Bernadas report, DOH 7 also recorded two new recoveries: patients who tested negative for COVID-19.
Garcia placed the entire province of Cebu under an improved community quarantine on March 30, which remains in place until further notice.
The governor warned people not to go to the beaches on Easter Sunday or they would be arrested.
“I have already ordered the police to strictly monitor the beaches. Violators will face a prison sentence, ”he said.
The entire province of Cebu, including Cebu City, now has 33 confirmed cases of COVID-19, but only nine were active patients.
Eighteen have recovered and six have died.
