Two Filipinos killed in Abu Dhabi restaurant explosion, several more injured – DFA

MANILA, Philippines – Two Filipinos were killed in the gas explosion that ripped through a restaurant in Abu Dhabi earlier this week, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed Tuesday.

“It is with deep sadness that the Department of Foreign Affairs, through the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi, shares the latest information that two Filipinos were killed in yesterday’s unfortunate accident caused by a gas explosion at a restaurant in Sheikh Rashid. Bin Seed Road, (also known as Airport Road) in Abu Dhabi, as reported by the UAE authorities, ”the DFA said in a statement.

The Philippine embassy there has already contacted the families of the Philippine victims and assured them that they will receive all necessary assistance.

The embassy is also coordinating with local authorities to obtain details on some Filipinos who suffered minor injuries in the blast and were taken to hospital so that they could receive adequate support, the DFA added.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Hjayceelyn Quintana, advised Filipinos in Abu Dhabi to “remain safe and take into account the security and safety protocols of the host government.”
