Popular K-pop girl group TWICE said on Monday that their upcoming full-length album “Eyes Wide Open” will likely surprise fans with the band’s darker and darker side.
“It represents the danger and anxiety that comes from being on the border between good and bad,” rapper Dahyun said in a series of questions and answers sent to the press before the album is out at 6pm.
“It also captures a provocative vibe that bravely crosses the line, and I think a lot of people will be surprised to see a new TWICE that they’ve never seen before,” he said.
Mina, one of the group’s Japanese members, said that the band moved away from its characteristic optimistic demeanor and into a darker area with the new album.
“(We sing) about the unsafe and uncomfortable feeling TWICE has never shown. Everyone has both a positive side and an insecure side, ”he said.

The 13-track album is the band’s first full-length album in three years and includes collaborations with British artist Dua Lipa and South Korean singer-songwriter Heize.
The teasers released ahead of the album’s release show the group’s nine members, Jihyo, Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Mina, Dahyun, Chaeyoung, and Tzuyu, wearing more mature looks, all-black dresses, and outfits inspired by gray suits.
The title track “I Can’t Stop Now”, written by agency boss Park Jin-young and composed by Melanie Joy Fontana and Michel “Lindgren” Schulz, captures an uncontrollable mind that is in conflict between good and bad. , according to JYP. .
Dahyun explained that the title track is a retro-style song with strong instrumental sounds.
“It’s a synthetic wave genre that combines the European electronic sound and the American synth sound of the ’80s. Once you hear it, you’ll probably be humming it,” he said.
The band members said they also tried to reproduce the retro vibe visually through their outfits and music videos.
Jihyo said the group tried to show the retro vibe through a daring style in the music video, while Sana chimed in saying that the music video comes with many visual attractions, such as a huge set of flowers and scenery that replicates a platform of subway.
When asked about their favorite songs that they would like to recommend, Jihyo and Chaeyoung chose “Hell in Heaven” while Nayeon and Mina chose “Say Something”.
The group members asked fans to look forward to their first full album in years and expressed their disappointment at not being able to meet them in person.
TWICE has a live fan meeting scheduled for 8 p.m. that will air on V LIVE and YouTube.
The nine-member band will be holding their promotional activities without Jungyeon, who will be sitting down temporarily due to anxiety issues.
In an October 20 post on the group’s official Instagram account, Jungyeon left a message thanking fans for the group’s fifth anniversary and said that he hopes to return shortly after his recovery.
