Trump News Live: The Latest 2020 Election Updates As Polls Open In Record Presidential Election

[ad_1]

It’s decision day for America, and voters on Tuesday are about to decide between President Donald Trump and Democrat Joe Biden in a race for the White House like no other.

They were campaigns marked by rancor and fear, as well as by hope and aspiration, as both candidates declared the other incapable of leading a nation in crisis, amid a pandemic that has claimed 230,000 American lives.

With so much at stake, nearly 100 million votes were cast before Election Day, while experts and voters alike will likely have to wait for the election result to be clear when the polls close tonight.

Social media censors Trump’s tweets on ballots

Twitter and Facebook late Monday pointed to posts by President Donald Trump claiming that a US Supreme Court decision on voting by mail in Pennsylvania would lead to “rampant” fraud and was “very dangerous.”

Twitter hid the president’s tweet, sent hours before the polls opened on Tuesday, behind a tag that said the content was “disputed” and “could be misleading.”

Trump and his Republican allies have repeatedly said, without evidence, that mail-in ballots are prone to fraud, although election experts say that is rare in American elections.

Trump’s tweet also said, unsubstantiated, that the Supreme Court decision “would induce violence in the streets.”

Accident at a Trump campaign rally

For his penultimate 2020 campaign rally, Donald Trump was forced to use a handheld microphone and promised he would not pay the company that telegraphed the event in Wisconsin.

Holding the microphone, the president bragged that he was working “harder” than at the 15 rallies that preceded him in the final days of his campaign.

He ended the night in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he also ended his 2016 election bid with an evening rally.

Whether or not this election provides the same result as four years ago remains to be seen, and especially if the polls, which show Joe Biden ahead nationally, are something to go through.

First vote cast on Election Day

By voting just after midnight on Tuesday, November 3, a longtime Republican from Dixville Notch in New Hampshire became the first American to cast his vote on Election Day, continuing a tradition that dates back to 1960.

Since then, every US presidential election has started with the first ballot in Dixville Notch.

Tuesday’s voter, Les Otten, said he was a “lifelong Republican who voted for Joe Biden for president.”

Donald Trump’s last campaign rally

After months, and possibly years, of campaigning for his re-election to the White House, Donald Trump’s final stop for 2020 looked a lot like the 16 that preceded him from Friday.

In particular, he thanked his closest lieutenants and thousands of fans in Grand Rapids over and over again, even acknowledging in his own way that he could lose.
