Michigan police are investigating after graves in a Jewish cemetery were desecrated with graffiti that read “Trump” and “ITSELF“on the eve of the elections.

The Grand Rapids Police Department received reports Monday of several headstones in the Ahavas Achim Cemetery being vandalized.

The graves were painted with pro-Trump slogans as the president held his last 2020 campaign rally in Grand Rapids on Monday night.

The Grand Rapid Police Department said it was investigating, but has not been able to retrieve any evidence from the scene and currently has no suspects.

“We are dismayed by the desecration of tombstones in the Ahavas Israel Cemetery in Grand Rapids, “the Michigan branch of the Anti-Defamation League said in a statement.

“We are in close contact with the Jewish community and law enforcement to investigate this vandalism.”

The Michigan Jewish Democratic Caucus said the “heinous act” was committed on the eve of the election to “send an intimidating message to the president’s opponents, and in particular to Jewish voters.”

Cary Fleischer, Grand Rapids regional chair of the Michigan Jewish Democratic Caucus, said: “This attack on our Jewish community in Grand Rapids says a lot about the choice our country faces in [Tuesday’s] choice.

“It is time to elect leaders who care about the communities they serve, who will uphold the rule of law and stand up to hatred and violent extremism, without fanning their flames.”

The Michigan chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MI) also offers a $ 1,000 reward to anyone who provides information leading to an arrest and conviction.

“We call on federal law enforcement authorities to investigate the recent desecration of the Jewish cemetery as a hate crime,” he said AUTUMN-MI Executive Director David Walid. “The holy places of people of faith must be protected from vandalism that aims to sow fear and intimidation.”

The Grand Rapids Police Department has been contacted for comment.

Michigan is seen as one of the key states that could decide who wins this year’s election between Trump and Joe Biden.

According to a recent Research Co poll, Biden currently has an eight-point lead over Trump in polls (53 percent to 45 percent).

In 2016, Trump defeated Hilary Clinton by just 0.2 percent, the narrowest margin of victory in Michigan history and the narrowest overall in the 2016 election.

Trump’s victory was the first election since 1988 in which Michigan did not vote for a Democrat.
