MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Commerce and Industry (DTI) has enabled travel agencies, tour operators, reservation service and other related activities to operate in areas under relaxed community quarantine.
Under Circular Memorandum No. 20-53 dated October 14 and signed by the Secretary of Commerce Ramón López, the DTI said that these services can reopen at 50 percent of their operational capacity in the GCQ areas and at 100 percent of their capacity in the MGCQ areas after the establishments were re-categorized from Category IV to Category III.
However, DTI said that the reopening of the operations of travel agencies, tour operators, reservation service and other related activities is still subject to the minimum public health standards and protocols of the national government.
“The DTI, through the Fair Trade Enforcement Office (FTEB) and the Regional or Provincial Offices, will supervise compliance with this Circular through a subsequent audit mechanism,” says the circular.
In addition, the DTI said that inspections by the Department of Tourism (DOT), the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), the Department of Health (DOH), and the health offices of local government units can also take place at any time. .
DTI said the public can provide comments and complaints related to the circular through the DTI 1-384 consumer hotline.
Previously, the Department of Tourism (DOT) also allowed “stays” at various luxury hotels in Metro Manila.
Metro Manila residents who want to take a “vacation” must submit rapid antigen test results on the same day of registration that prove negative for the new coronavirus that causes the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
