MANILA – Bambol Tolentino and Steve Hontiveros will remain the best of the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) after they were re-elected in the general elections held at the East Ocean Palace restaurant in Parañaque city on Friday.

Tolentino got a new term as POC president after beating Clint Aranas, 30-22.

Meanwhile, Hontiveros, who raced under the Aranas team, remains president after beating Tom Carrasco in a highly contested vote, 28-25.

However, Julian Camacho’s re-election as treasurer stalled after Cynthia Carrion-Norton won, 27-22, in a vote in which four people abstained from voting for treasurer.

Tolentino’s allies won the other top posts.

The head of the Philippine Basketball Association, Al Panlilio, was named first vice president, beating Philip Juico of the Philippine Amateur Athletics Association, 30-23.

Ormoc Mayor Richard Gomez, representing fencing and pentathlon, will be the second vice president, beating Ada Milby of rugby, 31-22.

PBA legend Chito Loyzaga, representing baseball, beat Monico Puentevella as auditor, 27-24.

On the other hand, Tolentino’s ticket got three out of four spots on the POC executive board.

Renowned sports surgeon George Canlas, representing surfing, was the one who won the most votes in all elections, occupying the first position of board member with 36.

Muay Thai’s Pearl Managuelod placed second with 31, while Judo’s David Carter also claimed a spot with 27.

Only Charlie Ho won as a board member among the Aranas team members, coming in third with 28 votes.

In total, 53 people representing national sports associations and various sports sectors voted.

The Philippine Table Tennis Federation did not send a representative to the polls.

All elected officials will serve four-year terms that will last until shortly after the 2024 Paris Olympics. (PNA)
