The president of the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC), Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino, has assembled a formidable team for the upcoming POC elections that his rivals will find difficult to match.

The head of basketball, Al Panlilio, will participate in the polls on November 27 as first vice president of Tolentino, while the mayor of the city of Ormoc, Richard Gómez, of modern pentathlon and fencing, will run as second vice president.

“They are both very competent as sports leaders and have a great concern to take care of our athletes,” Tolentino told the Inquirer.

Both also have star power that can persuade more fans to side with Tolentino in the battle for numbers during the exercise, where elected officials get a new four-year term until the 2024 Paris Olympics. .

Cavite province 8th district representative Tolentino said his ticket is almost complete, but declined to name his bets for POC president, treasurer, auditor and board members.

“It will be a privilege to work with Cong. Bambol and serve under his leadership, ” said Panlilio, president of Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas. “The sport has been close to my heart and I would like to contribute to shaping the future of Philippine sports, especially for the benefit of our athletes.

Gomez, a popular actor and athlete, is currently the director of two sports associations: the Philippine Fencing Association and the Modern Pentathlon Association of the Philippines. INQ
