About 21 percent of the postponed Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games tickets have been refunded, and the window for additional refunds has now closed.

As reported by Kyodo News, ticket buyers have requested refunds for around 200,000 of the approximately 970,000 tickets sold in Japan for the Games.

The organizers gave the opportunity to make refunds after the Games were postponed until 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Paralympic Games are now scheduled to take place from August 24 to September 5, 2021.

This refund window was open from December 1 to December 21.

“This is a confirmation that most people are looking forward to the Games,” said a Tokyo 2020 spokesman.

“Our preparations for a safe and secure Games are moving forward.”

It is the consequence of a similar refund process for the Olympics, with that closing period on November 30th and refunds are made this month.

About 18 percent of tickets for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics were refunded as about 4.48 million tickets were sold for the Olympics, with Tokyo 2020 revealing that there were 810,000 refund requests.

The refund process is separate for ticket holders outside of Japan, who purchased tickets through authorized ticket resellers (ATR).

Each ATR has its own individual refund procedure.

Refunds are expected for the Paralympic Games in mid-January.
