TNT’s desire to improve their defense led Tropang Giga to sign Glenn Khobuntin, Dave Marcelo and Ping Exciminiano for the 2021 PBA season.
Tropang Giga made moves on their roster this month by acquiring Khobuntin, Marcelo and Exciminiano through free agency in hopes of becoming a better team following their loss in the Philippine Cup championship series last year. .
TNT assistant coach Bong Ravena said the baseball club was looking for players who could be a spark on defense, and the coaching staff believes they have found their men in all three players.
“We are very particular in defense,” Ravena said in an interview before Chot Reyes was named TNT’s new head coach. “We need to be tough on defense. On the offensive, wala kaming problem. They will really make our defense tougher. “

Ravena said Khobuntin, who lands a one-season deal with TNT after one season with Terrafirma, is a great addition to being a reliable two-way player.
Khobuntin averaged 7.8 points and 2.4 rebounds during his final conference with the Dyip during last year’s bubble campaign.
“He can play defense and, at the same time, he can shoot from all three and can push hard towards the basket. But ang nakita talaga namin sa kanya is his defense and toughness. That is what we want, ”Ravena said.
Ravena said Marcelo is also a key acquisition, as he will also bolster TNT’s front line that will already be without Harvey Carey after the veteran retires.
Marcelo was the third leading shot blocker in the knockout round of the Philippine Cup last year after averaging 1.18 blocks for Phoenix Super LPG.
“We couldn’t find a big man and then the opportunity came. He became a free agent, so we took that opportunity. It can help the team on the inside, ”said Ravena.
Exciminiano, meanwhile, was a late addition after he missed last season to Rain or Shine with a major injury while playing in a ligang labas.
Ravena said TNT will continue to do its best during the offseason in an effort to improve the title chances of the baseball club that last tasted a championship during the 2015 Commissioner’s Cup.
